The basil was chopped and turned into pesto! We made both regular and vegan pesto (no cheese) at the request of a friend 🙂 Both are so tasty and FRESH! Sweet Basil 🌿 This beautiful, vibrant green herb that is commonly found in the kitchen has SO many uses and benefits!! There are different types of basil, but the one in the pictures from our garden are Sweet Basil. Sweet Basil is mainly used for cooking (whereas Holy Basil is traditionally used for its medicinal properties). 🌿Sweet Basil is high in antioxidants along with having anti-inflammatory properties. 🌿 It can help with heart health by helping to lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides. 🌿 Basil helps with digestion which pairs great with the hearty Italian meals it’s usually found in. 🌿 Basil is high in Vitamin K and Vitamin A. 🌿 The 2 most common ways of preserving basil are drying/dehydrating or freezing. You can hang dry or put the leaves in a dehydrator, crumble it, and jar it to use as seasoning or in tea. This seems to be the best way to hold the full flavor of the leaves. If you want to freeze it, making a pesto from it and then freezing has worked best for us. Recently I was trusted to make a Memory Quilt and Pillow using the customer’s late grandma’s tshirts, sweater, and favorite jean shorts! She loved how it turned out and so did I!
